KIA ORAOn World Patient Safety Day, we invite you to join patients, whānau, clinicians, advocates and health leaders from across Aotearoa for a national forum focused on one of the most important questions facing our health system: How do we reduce preventable harm and make healthcare safer for everyone? At the heart of this forum are the voices of patients and whānau whose lives have been affected by preventable harm in our health system. They will share their experiences, the impact those experiences have had on their lives, and the changes they believe could help make healthcare safer. Political parties will then have the opportunity to respond to those stories, share their vision for improving patient safety, and discuss the practical actions they would take to reduce preventable harm and strengthen accountability within New Zealand's health system. This includes funding public health properly, honouring Te Tiriti, and keeping healthcare public. The forum is part of a national World Patient Safety Day campaign featuring the first Light It Orange initiative, the Sky Tower illuminated in orange, patient stories from across Aotearoa, and a high-profile public awareness campaign highlighting the importance of patient safety. There has already been encouraging interest from media in the campaign, which aims to shine a spotlight on preventable harm in healthcare and encourage New Zealanders to join the conversation about building a safer health system.
