More than 1,500 healthcare workers told us what it is really like working in Aotearoa New Zealand’s public health system. We think New Zealanders should hear what they have to say.

Our new street poster campaign launched today, using the actual words of healthcare workers who responded to our nationwide survey about what is happening inside the public health system.

And they did not sugarcoat it.

They told us there aren’t enough staff. That patients are waiting too long. That buildings and equipment are old and failing. That people are exhausted and burnt out.

Again and again, they told us they are worried they won’t be able to give patients the care they need, or that something will go seriously wrong because people are being asked to do too much with too little.

These quotes come directly from healthcare workers we rely on every day. The same healthcare workers looking after you and your whānau when you need them.

So we thought more New Zealanders should see them.

Vote for health

We’ve spent a lot of time talking about the state of our public health system. So have Doctors, Nurses, Patients, Researchers, Health leaders, Unions. And just about everyone else who has been paying attention.

This election, we need to do something about it.

The next Government can properly fund public healthcare, honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi and protect a strong public health system. Or we can keep asking exhausted healthcare workers to somehow make an underfunded system work.

That’s a political choice. And in this upcoming election, it’s ours too.
