RNZ: Healthcare ‘roady’ seeks first-hand accounts from concerned communities.

RNZ has covered the launch of the Save Our Public Health Roady, as Malcolm Mulholland and Dr David Galler prepare to travel from Bluff to Cape Reinga listening to communities about the state of public healthcare.

Speaking to RNZ ahead of the first public meeting in Invercargill, Malcolm said the Roady was about hearing first-hand what is happening in communities around the country, from access to local hospitals and health services to the growing pressures on the public system.

“People are really concerned about the state of the public health system. They're worried about the level of funding and where that funding is being directed. They're worried about the creep of privatisation, and they're also worried about Māori not having a voice.”

The Roady follows recent community meetings in Tararua, where hundreds of people turned out to voice their concerns about access to healthcare.

Over the next two weeks, Malcolm and David will travel the length of the country, taking those conversations on the road and making sure local voices are heard in the national debate ahead of the general election.
